Born on Islesboro, Maine, in 1860, Mark Pierce Pendleton was the owner and publisher of the newspaper, "The Belfast Age" of Belfast, Maine, from 1888 to 1893. He was appointed United States Consul at Pictou by President Grover Cleveland in 1893. Pendleton died at the age of 38 on May 12, 1898.
