This book was one of their four entries in 1930 in the American Books Campaign to prove the quality of American bookmaking on a commercial basis. The other three being Melville's "Moby-Dick" illustrated by Rockwell Kent, Thoreau's "Walden" with the Rudolph Ruzicka's illustrations, and "Tales" by Edgar Allan Poe illustrated by W. A. Dwiggins. Each edition was limited to 1,000 copies. Edward A. Wilson designed this edition as well as illustrated it with 36 color plates or decorations.
